SGPPH Session BSHG 2008 Conference: 15-17 September 2008 |

SGPPH will be hosting a plenary session during the BSHG 2008 Conference on 15 - 17 September 2008. The session will take place on Monday 15 September from 1400 - 1730 and is entitled: "Genetic Susceptibility Testing: Ready for Prime Time?" This session will review the recent science on common disease predictive markers and identify the next steps in making these findings relevant for consumers and clinicians. The development of the direct-to-consumer sector will be discussed and the role of innovation and need for transparency. The development of these tests has profound implications for policy makers and statutory authorities whose challenge is to adopt a proportionate approach which ensures equity of access whilst maintaining consumer protection and safety. The 3rd AGM of the Society for Genomics Policy and Population Health will take place on Thursday 6 November 2008 at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. The theme for the AGM will be 'Genetic Screening'. |
